About
A little room for observation
Northern field notes is a small reading collection about ordinary outdoor places: paths near home, changing weather and the light at the end of a day. The articles are intended to be read slowly and tried on familiar, accessible routes.
This is not a live weather service or a trail conditions database. Conditions can change between neighbouring streets, and older observations do not establish whether a path is safe today.
A simple practice
Walk a manageable distance, notice one thing and write a short note. No specialist equipment is required. Leave plants, stones and animals where you find them, keep to permitted routes and give other walkers space.
